120 jobs open for Plymouth dockyard project: How to apply

A major recruitment drive is launching in Plymouth this month as Kier BAM JV seeks to fill 120 roles for the ongoing infrastructure project at Devonport Dockyard. The project, which involves constructing new dry dock facilities to support the maintenance of the Royal Navy’s Astute-class submarines, is currently seeking a diverse range of talent to join its construction team.

To connect local residents with these vacancies, Kier BAM JV is partnering with Building Plymouth to host a free, drop-in information event. This session is designed to provide direct access to recruitment teams and training specialists for those interested in the project.

  • Date: Tuesday 16 June 2026
  • Time: 3:00 PM – 7:00 PM
  • Venue: Cobourg House, Mayflower Street, Plymouth
  • Cost: Free
  • Entry: No booking required

This event is open to construction professionals, individuals looking for a career change, those leaving the armed forces, and students seeking apprenticeship or graduate opportunities.

The scale of the Devonport Dockyard build has created demand for various professional and manual disciplines. Current openings include:

Role Category Examples
Technical & Engineering Engineers, BIM and CAD specialists, Laboratory technicians
Site Management Site supervisors, Safety professionals
Support & Logistics Logistics staff, Administrative personnel

As the work is situated within a secure dockyard environment, all successful applicants will be subject to security clearance and specific eligibility requirements. Building Local Career Pathways

David Bayliss, Chair of Building Plymouth, noted that the project represents a significant opportunity for local workers to secure high-quality, sustainable employment. The recruitment partnership aims to ensure that the project not only delivers critical defence infrastructure but also provides a lasting employment legacy for the city.

Attendees are encouraged to bring questions regarding training pathways, as representatives from the sector skills partnership will be on-site to provide guidance on how to transition into these roles. The drop-in format is intended to allow flexibility for those attending around work or other commitments.

For those unable to attend or seeking further information, details regarding the recruitment drive and the project’s ongoing progress can be found via the Building Plymouth website at www.buildingplymouth.co.uk/events.
