Award-winning Combermere gin distillery celebrated for global success

Cheshire East Council leaders recently visited Three Wrens Gin in Combermere to recognize the distillery’s international growth and commitment to low-impact production. The visit is part of the ‘Made in Cheshire East’ initiative, which spotlights local enterprises contributing to the borough’s economic development and innovation.

Founded in 2019 by master distiller Nick Wadeson, Three Wrens has evolved from a local startup into a globally recognized brand. The family-run business utilizes traditional copper-pot distilling techniques alongside modern methods to produce small-batch spirits. Its portfolio includes multiple international gold medals and the prestigious Golden Fork Award from the Guild of Fine Food.

Sustainable business practices in rural Cheshire

Environmental responsibility is integrated into the distillery’s daily operations. The business operates a glass refill scheme to minimize waste and grows many of its own herbs and botanicals on-site.

Councillor Michael Gorman, deputy leader of Cheshire East Council, noted that the combination of craftsmanship and environmental responsibility serves as a model for other local businesses. The distillery also employs a zero-waste approach to cocktails and uses bulk supply methods for trade partners to reduce transport-related emissions.

Regional economic and tourism impact

The distillery’s presence in Combermere supports the local economy through job creation and by attracting visitors to the rural area. Councillor Nick Mannion, leader of Cheshire East Council, described the business as an example of the ambition the council aims to support through its engagement programs.

Nick Wadeson expressed that the council’s backing has been a consistent factor in the company’s journey since its launch. The ‘Made in Cheshire East’ programme continues to engage with various sectors to reinforce the borough’s reputation as a viable location for sustainable business growth.
