Two boys injured in violence at Kingsbury High School are now in a stable condition in hospital, Brent Council leader Cllr Muhammed Butt said as the borough moved to support pupils, staff and families after the incident.
The council said it remains in regular contact with Headteacher Alex Thomas and is helping coordinate wellbeing support for the school community. Residents have also been told to expect an increased police presence in the area in the coming days for reassurance.
Anyone with information that could help police understand what led up to the incident has been urged to come forward. The council also asked residents not to share rumours or unverified claims on social media while the Metropolitan Police investigation continues.
Two boys remain in stable condition
Cllr Butt said Brent had been left deeply shaken after what he described as an act of violence affecting families, friends, students, staff and residents across the borough.
He said his thoughts remained with the two boys in hospital and wished them well in their recovery. The statement did not name the children or give further medical details.
Police have confirmed, according to the council statement, that they believe the incident was a one-off event and that one arrest has been made. The suspect being interviewed is a child, so further identifying details are not being released.
School staff and emergency crews praised
The council leader thanked police officers and paramedics for their rapid response, saying blue light services had acted to protect children and the wider community.
He also paid tribute to teachers and staff at Kingsbury High School, led by Alex Thomas, saying they protected pupils and showed care and courage during the incident.
For parents and pupils, the immediate concern is likely to be both physical safety and emotional recovery. Serious violence in or near a school setting can affect students who were not directly injured, including those who witnessed the response, heard accounts from classmates or are now anxious about returning to normal routines.
Wellbeing support for pupils and staff
Brent Council said its staff will continue supporting the school for as long as needed. That includes ongoing contact with the headteacher and coordination of wellbeing support for pupils and staff.
Cllr Butt directed a message to young people at Kingsbury High and across Brent, saying they were not alone and that the community believed in their future.
He also urged any young person who is struggling to speak to someone they trust and ask for help. The statement linked the incident to wider concerns about knife crime and the pressure some young people carry, while stressing that violence should not be treated as normal or inevitable.
The borough has faced previous public concern over serious youth violence, including cases where residents were asked to help police with information. Brent’s wider response has also included life-saving bleed kits and emergency training linked to knife crime awareness.
Police investigation and misinformation warning
Cllr Butt said the investigation must be allowed to continue without misinformation spreading online. He said there should be no place for rumours, scapegoating or attempts to stir racism or division in response to the incident.
The council said residents will see more officers locally in the coming days as part of reassurance work around the school community.
Police are still working to establish the full facts. The council said even a small detail could help investigators understand what happened before the violence.
“I know that yesterday’s events will cast a long shadow. But please hear this: you are not alone. Better days will come, and there is a whole community standing beside you, that believes in your future,” Cllr Butt said.
