Harrow Welcomes New Mayor Yogesh Teli to Lead Civic Service

Harrow has officially appointed Councillor Yogesh Teli as the borough’s new Mayor for the 2026 civic year. A long-standing representative for the Edgware ward, Cllr Teli brings two decades of local government experience to the role of First Citizen, where he will serve as the ceremonial head of the borough.

Decades of service in Edgware and Harrow

Cllr Teli was first elected to the council in 2006 and is currently serving his fourth term. His entry into public service began in 2005 when he established a local residents’ association to address community concerns in Edgware. Throughout his tenure, he has focused on resident support and community cohesion. This appointment follows the recent local election cycle where the Conservatives secure overall control of Harrow Council, establishing the current leadership framework for the borough.

Focus on children and charitable fundraising

Alongside his council duties, Cllr Teli has maintained a significant presence in the local voluntary sector, specifically through his work with the Ashiana Charity Trust. For his mayoral year, he has selected two primary beneficiaries: Great Ormond Street Hospital and Kids Can Achieve. Both organizations align with his career-long focus on supporting children with special needs and families facing medical challenges.

As the borough’s First Citizen, the Mayor will represent Harrow at all major civic and ceremonial occasions. He will be supported in these duties by the Mayoress, Neela Teli. His primary objective for the next 12 months involves increasing public awareness for his chosen charities and recognizing the contributions of local volunteers.

The mayoral theme of unity

Cllr Teli has adopted the theme “Love, Serve and Unite All” for his term in office. This focus aims to bridge different community groups across one of London’s most diverse boroughs. His upcoming schedule includes a series of visits to local resident associations, religious centers, and youth groups to promote civic engagement.

In his inaugural address, the Mayor emphasized his commitment to celebrating the achievements of residents across the borough. He expressed a specific interest in meeting groups that have historically had less interaction with the Mayor’s office to ensure all parts of the community feel represented in civic life.
