Kaunas Prepares for New ‘Vėjukai’ Kindergarten: Registration Guide

Parents in the Romainiai district of Kaunas have a crucial date to mark on their calendars. The city’s newest educational facility, the “Vėjukai” nursery-kindergarten, is set to open its doors this September, providing a modern educational space for 250 children. As the city continues to expand its infrastructure in rapidly growing residential areas, this project represents a significant milestone for local families.

Registration for the 2024-2025 academic year is scheduled to begin on May 18 at 11:00 AM. This new facility is part of a broader strategy by the Kaunas City Municipality to ensure that high-quality education is accessible closer to home, reducing the need for long commutes and easing the pressure on existing institutions.

Registration Window and Capacity

The registration process is primarily digital, reflecting the city’s move toward streamlined public services. Parents can submit applications through the official portal at idarzeli.kaunas.lt. For those who prefer in-person assistance, the Kaunas Municipality’s Client Service and Information Department at Laisvės al. 96 is also available to handle documentation.

The facility is designed to accommodate 250 children across 14 specialized groups. The current plan includes:
* 6 Nursery Groups: Catering to the youngest children, with 15 spots per group.
* 8 Kindergarten Groups: Designed for older children, with 20 spots per group.

While these numbers are set, municipal officials have noted that the final distribution of places may be adjusted based on the actual demand seen during the registration period. It is important to note that priority is given to families where both the child and the parents have officially declared their place of residence within the Kaunas city limits.

Modern Infrastructure and Educational Vision

The “Vėjukai” facility is not just a standard school building; it is a state-of-the-art A++ energy efficiency class structure. The U-shaped, single-story design focuses on functionality and child-centric spaces. Each group will have its own dedicated exit to an internal courtyard, ensuring that outdoor play and fresh air are integrated into the daily routine.

Inside, the building features cozy sleeping and play zones, separate washrooms, and small kitchenettes for each group. Beyond the classrooms, the facility includes specialist consultation rooms, a universal hall for physical activities and events, and professional-grade kitchen facilities. Outside, the grounds are equipped with modern playgrounds, green zones, and a terrace for outdoor events. For parents, the site includes convenient drop-off points, bicycle racks, and new pedestrian pathways to ensure safe access.

Director Ingrida Ramanauskaitė-Markevičienė has emphasized that the school’s vision is built on creating a “happy, successful, and creative” environment. The curriculum will focus on individual personality growth through respect, collaboration, and responsibility.

Employment Opportunities and Strategic Growth

The opening of “Vėjukai” also brings significant employment opportunities to the Romainiai area. The institution is currently forming its team, seeking approximately 100 staff members ranging from pedagogical specialists to technical and support personnel. This project is the second major “greenfield” investment in Kaunas education recently. It follows the successful 2022 opening of the “Vaikystės takas” kindergarten in Šilainiai. The city’s commitment to modernizing its educational network also includes the recent total renovation of the “Pelėdžiukas” kindergarten in Vilijampolė and upcoming updates to the Tirkiliškės school-kindergarten units in Aleksotas. By focusing on high-growth areas like Romainiai, the city aims to match its infrastructure development with the needs of its expanding young population.
