Steve Tuckwell and Reeta Chamdal to lead Hillingdon

Hillingdon Council has officially appointed Cllr Steve Tuckwell as its new Leader during the Annual General Meeting held on Thursday, 14 May. Cllr Tuckwell begins a four-year term, taking over the position following Ian Edwards’ departure from the leadership after five years in the post.

Upon his appointment, Cllr Tuckwell confirmed Cllr Richard Mills as Deputy Leader and announced the formation of a new Cabinet. The Leader will personally oversee the portfolio for Growth, Communications, and Governance, while working alongside colleagues to manage borough-wide services for residents.

Cabinet appointments and portfolio responsibilities

The new administration has distributed responsibilities across several key areas to manage the council’s statutory duties and local initiatives. The confirmed Cabinet members and their respective portfolios are:

  • Cllr Richard Mills: Deputy Leader and Corporate Services, Digital and Transformation
  • Cllr Eddie Lavery: Finance
  • Cllr Susan O’Brien: Children, Families, Health and Care
  • Cllr Adam Bennett: Community, Environment and Enforcement
  • Cllr Wayne Bridges: Residents’ Services
  • Cllr Nick Denys: Planning, Housing and Property

Reeta Chamdal elected as Mayor of Hillingdon

During the same meeting, Cllr Reeta Chamdal was officially elected as the new Mayor of Hillingdon, succeeding Cllr Philip Corthorne. As the borough’s first citizen and ceremonial representative, Cllr Chamdal will represent the council at public events and volunteer engagements throughout the municipal year.

Cllr Chamdal will be supported in her official duties by her husband and Mayor’s Consort, Roy Chamdal, and her children. Cllr Colleen Sullivan has been appointed to the role of Deputy Mayor.

Outgoing Mayor Cllr Philip Corthorne, who returns to his role as a ward councillor, noted that the borough’s strength lies in its people. Residents or local organizations wishing to invite the new Mayor to an event can contact the office via the official council channels.
