Bexley road closures and planning notice residents need

Bexley residents have new road restrictions and one planning application to check after the London Borough of Bexley published its public notices dated 27 May 2026.

The notices cover water main works in Erith and Sidcup, short highway improvement works in Bexley, and a householder planning application in the Brook Street Conservation Area. Several restrictions begin at the start of June, with signs on site showing when each measure is active.

Roads and properties covered by the notices

Notice area What is affected
Frinsted Road, Erith Road closures in sections for new water main works by Galliford Try on behalf of Thames Water
Royal Road and Maylands Drive, Sidcup Waiting and loading restrictions for water mains replacement works by M Group Water Ltd on behalf of Thames Water
Upton Road South, Finsbury Way, Riverdale Road and Love Lane, Bexley One-day closures and parking restrictions for highway improvement works
245 Brook Street, Erith Planning application for a single-storey side and rear wraparound extension within the Brook Street Conservation Area

Drivers using Frinsted Road should check the exact closure section before travelling. The affected stretches are between Beechfield Road and Twigg Close, between Stuart Mantle Way and Filby Close, and between Filby Close and Birling Road.

For wider travel context, hiyastar.co.uk has also reported on Sidcup and Erith water works affecting local journeys.

June start dates and expected duration

The Frinsted Road order comes into effect on 1 June 2026 and is legally valid for up to 18 months. The notice says the works are expected to be completed within that 18-month period.

Restrictions on Royal Road and Maylands Drive also begin on 1 June 2026. That order is valid for 18 months, but the works are expected to take up to 124 days. No alternative route is required because the notice concerns waiting and loading restrictions rather than a full road closure.

The Upton Road South works begin on 2 June 2026 and are expected to be completed within one day. The diversion listed is via Upton Road South, Parkhurst Road, Parkhill Road and Riverdale Road, with access maintained for Upton Road South, Finsbury Way, Riverdale Road and Love Lane.

Emergency service vehicles, works vehicles and anything done under the direction of a police constable in uniform or traffic warden are exempt from the restrictions.

Planning comments must be made within 21 days

The planning notice concerns 245 Brook Street, Erith, Kent. Ms Ruhee has applied to the London Borough of Bexley for permission to build a single-storey side and rear wraparound extension.

Residents who want to comment must do so within 21 days of the 27 May 2026 notice date, quoting reference 26/00980/FUL. The council says responses can be made through its Planning Application Information Online system or sent in writing to Development Management, Civic Offices, 2 Watling Street, Bexleyheath, Kent, DA6 7AT.

Because the application relates to a domestic dwelling, comments made at this stage may be the only representations passed to the Planning Inspectorate if the application is refused and later appealed under the Householder Appeal Service.
