Haringey residents called to vote in two upcoming by-elections

Residents in two specific Haringey wards will return to the ballot box this June. Following the recent borough-wide local elections, by-elections have been officially triggered for the Northumberland Park and Woodside wards. Both polls are scheduled to take place on Thursday, 25 June 2026.

Candidate nomination deadlines

Individuals intending to stand for election as a local councillor in either Northumberland Park or Woodside must complete the formal nomination process. Nomination papers must be submitted to the Returning Officer no later than 4:00 PM on Friday, 29 May 2026. This deadline is strict, and any papers received after this time will not be accepted for the June ballot.

Essential dates for Haringey voters

To participate in these by-elections, residents must ensure they are correctly registered and aware of the specific cut-off times for different voting methods. While many residents are already on the electoral register, those who have recently moved to the area or turned 18 must take action by the following dates:

Requirement Deadline
Register to vote 11:59 PM, Tuesday 9 June
Apply for a postal vote 5:00 PM, Wednesday 10 June
Apply for a proxy vote 5:00 PM, Wednesday 10 June
Apply for a Voter Authority Certificate 5:00 PM, Wednesday 17 June

Voter identification requirements

Under national legislation, all voters attending a polling station in person must present an accepted form of photo identification. This applies to both the Northumberland Park and Woodside contests. Accepted forms of ID include a UK passport, driving licence, or an older person’s bus pass.

Residents who do not have one of the accepted forms of photo ID can apply for a free Voter Authority Certificate. This document is designed specifically for electoral purposes and ensures that no eligible voter is disenfranchised due to a lack of standard identification. The application for this certificate must be completed by 5:00 PM on Wednesday, 17 June to be valid for the by-elections on 25 June.

Registered voters in the affected wards will receive a poll card in the mail providing specific details on their designated polling station and the voting process. Those opting for postal votes should expect their ballot packs to arrive in the weeks leading up to the election date.
