Wellingborough W3 bus route links Kingsway with town

A new W3 bus route is now running in Wellingborough, giving Kingsway residents a weekday link to the town centre and, during off-peak hours, to Sainsbury’s.

North Northamptonshire Council said it has worked with CommMiniBus to introduce the service, which began on Tuesday 26 May. The route is partly funded by the council and runs Monday to Friday, while separate walking and cycling improvements are also planned elsewhere in Northamptonshire.

W3 route serves Kingsway, Abbey Road and Sainsbury’s

The W3 bus route runs between Wellingborough town centre and the Kingsway area. Buses stop along Abbey Road, Kingsway, Princess Way and Berrymoor Road.

For shoppers, the off-peak extension to Sainsbury’s is the main extra link. It gives residents a direct daytime option for supermarket trips without needing to travel by car or arrange a lift.

The town centre stop is Church Street, Bay C. In the Kingsway area, Berrymoor Court is one of the listed timing points.

Weekday buses run every 30 minutes for much of the day

The W3 operates from Monday to Friday. The timetable published by the council shows regular half-hourly buses in both directions, with the Sainsbury’s section served during the daytime off-peak period.

Direction Main weekday times
Church Street to Kingsway From 07:25, then every 30 minutes in the morning, daytime and early evening periods until 19:25
Berrymoor Court to town centre From 07:05, then regular half-hourly departures through the day until 19:35
Sainsbury’s to town centre From 10:10, every 30 minutes until 15:10
Town centre to Sainsbury’s Off-peak journeys include Sainsbury’s between 10:07 and 15:07

Selected timing points include Church Street Interchange, Berrymoor Court and Sainsbury’s. Passengers should check the full stop-by-stop timetable at their stop before travelling, especially during the first weeks of operation.

Kingsway residents get a local link into town

The route is aimed at communities across Wellingborough that need a practical connection between residential streets, the town centre and everyday services.

For Kingsway residents, the service may help with commuting, appointments, shopping and access to other bus connections in the town centre. The Sainsbury’s extension is limited to off-peak hours, so it is most useful for daytime shopping trips rather than early morning or evening travel.

The service also adds another public transport option for streets around Abbey Road, Princess Way and Berrymoor Road. That matters for households without regular access to a car and for residents who prefer a shorter local bus journey into central Wellingborough.

Saturday service still to be introduced

A Saturday service is planned, but no start date has yet been confirmed in the published notice.

Until then, the W3 should be treated as a weekday service only. The current operating pattern is Monday to Friday, with the first listed town-bound journey from Berrymoor Court at 07:05 and the last listed arrival at Church Street Interchange at 19:43.
