Bexley names Lisa-Jane Moore as new Mayor

By hiyastar.co.uk news desk

Councillor Lisa-Jane Moore has become the 62nd Mayor of the London Borough of Bexley after being appointed at the council’s Annual Meeting on 27 May.

Cllr Moore represents Longlands ward and will serve with Mr Justin Moore as consort. The council said she is the 74th person to hold the title of Mayor of Bexley since the former Borough of Bexley received its charter in 1937.

Her deputy for the mayoral year is Councillor Frazer Brooks, who represents Blackfen and Lamorbey ward. Ms Allison Hartshorn has been appointed Deputy Mayoress.

Longlands councillor takes civic role

Cllr Moore was born in East London, now called KuGompo City, in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. She studied journalism and began her career running a local newspaper before moving to London in 1997 with her husband, Justin.

The couple became British citizens in 2003 and moved to Sidcup in the same year. They have lived in Longlands ward since then.

Cllr Moore was first elected as a councillor in 2021. She has served on scrutiny committees covering adult social care and health, children’s services and education, and chaired children’s services scrutiny for three years, including work on SEND and foster carer recruitment and retention.

Charity focus for the mayoral year

The Mayor has named three local causes she will support during her year in office: Crossroads Care South East London, Truly Beloved in Belvedere, and Diabetes UK Bexley.

Crossroads Care South East London supports unpaid carers, parent carers and older people across Bexley. Truly Beloved works with children with disabilities and special educational needs, while Diabetes UK Bexley supports people affected by diabetes in the borough.

The appointment follows another south-east London civic change, with Bromley’s mayoral appointment also placing local charities at the centre of the year ahead.

Cllr Moore said: “I am proud to serve as the Mayor of Bexley. This borough has been my home for over two decades and I am committed to working tirelessly to support and uplift our residents.”
