Islington Council Leader Cllr Una O’Halloran has confirmed the appointment of a new Executive team following the 2026 local elections. The cabinet is tasked with delivering a strategic mandate focused on social equality, housing delivery, and public safety across the borough for the next four years.

The new administration aims to accelerate safer streets and council homes as part of a wider commitment to local residents. Cllr O’Halloran stated that the council’s immediate focus will be addressing the cost-of-living crisis and ensuring that the borough remains a secure place for all communities.

Strategic priorities for the 2026-2030 term

The Executive has identified three core pillars for the upcoming term: safety, housing, and economic relief. Specific measures include the installation of new CCTV cameras in high-priority neighborhoods to deter anti-social behavior and the commencement of new construction projects for genuinely affordable homes.

In addition to infrastructure, the council plans to implement targeted actions to reduce utility bills for the most vulnerable households. This policy direction follows a period of public consultation where residents identified the cost of living and neighborhood security as their primary concerns. The leadership team intends to maintain a visible presence in the community to ensure these goals are met transparently.

New Executive appointments and portfolios

The essentials of the new leadership structure include nine key appointments, each overseeing a specific area of municipal service:

  • Leader of the Council: Cllr Una O’Halloran
  • Deputy Leader and Health and Social Care: Cllr Ruth Hayes
  • Finance: Cllr Paul Convery
  • Homes and Neighbourhoods: Cllr Jason Jackson
  • Climate, Environment, and Transport: Cllr Rowena Champion
  • Community Safety and Neighbourhoods: Cllr Heather Staff
  • Inclusive Economy and Planning: Cllr James Potts
  • Children, Young People, and Families: Cllr Sheila Chapman
  • Communities and Partnerships: Cllr Saiqa Pandor

These members are expected to begin their duties immediately, with a focus on integrating climate resilience into transport planning and expanding the inclusive economy initiative to support local businesses.
