West Northamptonshire residents, families, carers, service users and staff could soon be asked for views on the future of several council-run adult social care services.
West Northamptonshire Council’s Cabinet is due to consider on Tuesday 9 June whether to approve a 12-week public consultation. If agreed, the consultation would begin later in June and focus on long-term care homes, supported living, home care and day services currently run by the council.
The council says the review is linked to rising and changing demand for adult social care, more complex care needs and a wider move toward personalised, community-based support.
Services named in the proposed consultation
The services expected to be included are:
- Obelisk House long-term care home
- Southfields long-term care home
- Eleanor Lodge supported living service
- West Northamptonshire Council’s home care service
- Gladstone Road day services
- Olympus House day services
- Towcester Forum day services
- Longlands day services in Daventry
- The Cottages day services
The consultation would not make final decisions by itself. It would be used to gather evidence from people who use the services, their relatives, carers, staff and residents before any later Cabinet decision.
Why the council wants to review adult social care
Adult social care services support people who may need help because of age, disability, illness, mental health needs or other long-term conditions. For many families, day services, home care and supported living are part of the daily structure that keeps people safe, connected and able to live with dignity.
The council says it needs to check whether the current models of care still match people’s needs and whether the buildings used to deliver services are fit for purpose. That includes whether facilities meet modern care standards and whether they support safe, high-quality care.
The review is also expected to look at how services could be improved or developed further. That could include ideas about how care is delivered, how buildings are used, and how support can be shaped around individuals rather than fixed service patterns.
What this could mean for families and service users
For people who rely on Obelisk House, Southfields, Eleanor Lodge, home care or local day services, the consultation would be a chance to explain what works in real life and what should not be lost.

Families may want to raise practical details such as transport, routines, staffing relationships, accessibility, location, safety, continuity of care and the impact of any possible change on people with complex needs.
Staff views are also expected to be part of the process. Their experience can show where services are under pressure, where buildings limit good care, and where changes could improve support without disrupting people who depend on it.
Consultation dates and next steps
The immediate decision is due at Cabinet on Tuesday 9 June. Cabinet members will be asked whether the council should move ahead with a public consultation.
If Cabinet agrees, the consultation is expected to run for 12 weeks from later in June. The council says further details on how people can take part will be made available after approval.
Feedback gathered during the consultation would then be reviewed and reported back to Cabinet at a later date. Any future proposals would need to take account of the responses received before decisions are made about the services.
How residents can prepare to respond
People affected by the review can start by writing down the parts of the service that matter most to them. That may include how often the service is used, what support it provides, whether the location is suitable, and what risks could arise if the service changed.
Carers and relatives may also want to speak with service users in advance where possible, especially where a person may need support to explain preferences or concerns.
The council has not yet published the response route for the consultation. Further details are expected if Cabinet approves the consultation on Tuesday 9 June.
