West Northamptonshire SEND sessions near final booking

West Northamptonshire residents are being urged to book places for June SEND Community Conversations, where families, young people, carers and professionals can help shape future local support.

The in-person sessions will run from 10am to 2pm at venues in Northampton, Daventry, Towcester and Brackley. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

The events are part of work on the new SEND and Inclusion Strategy for 2027 to 2030. West Northamptonshire Council says feedback from the sessions and linked surveys will feed directly into a draft strategy due for wider consultation in September.

Who can take part in the June sessions

The conversations are open to residents, parents, carers, young people, professionals and community members with experience of, or an interest in, Special Educational Needs and Disabilities services in West Northamptonshire.

Each session will use the Whose Shoes? approach, an interactive format designed to help people discuss real experiences, hear different viewpoints and focus on practical changes for families and services.

The council has also said there will be separate sessions for children and young people, designed by its educational psychology team, so their views can be included in the strategy work.

How to register or share views online

Places for the SEND Community Conversations and the coffee morning are being handled through Eventbrite registration.

Anyone who cannot attend in person can still respond to the SEND strategy surveys, which have been extended until 17 June. Separate survey routes are available for parents, carers and professionals, and for children, young people and families.

Hiyastar has also reported on the extended SEND survey deadline for Northamptonshire families shaping SEND services.

Feedback will shape the 2027 to 2030 strategy

The council says evidence gathered from the June events and surveys will be used to prepare the draft SEND and Inclusion Strategy for 2027 to 2030.

That draft is expected to go out for wider consultation in September, giving families and professionals another chance to comment before the strategy is finalised.
