Daventry Leisure Centre is undergoing a significant reconfiguration as construction begins on a new, purpose-built Reformer Pilates studio. The project, which officially commenced on Monday, May 18, involves the installation of 20 specialist Reformer machines designed to provide high-intensity, low-impact workouts for the local community.

This development is part of a broader investment by West Northamptonshire Council and its leisure partner, Everyone Active. While the Daventry site is the first to see boots on the ground this week, the initiative extends across the region. Residents will soon see similar facilities opening at both Moulton Leisure Centre and Lings Forum Leisure Centre, following other major gym expansions at local centers in the Northampton area.

Three-week construction phase underway in Daventry

The new studio at Daventry is being situated in the space formerly occupied by the soft play area. Contractors expect the conversion to take approximately three weeks to complete. This timeline aims to have the facility ready for a public launch in June 2026.

By replacing the soft play zone with a fitness studio, the council is shifting the centre’s focus toward adult wellness and rehabilitation services. The new space is designed to be versatile, accommodating 20 participants per session on machines that use adjustable springs and a sliding carriage to create resistance.

Wider rollout across West Northamptonshire

The Daventry project is not an isolated update. Everyone Active, which manages more than 230 sites across England, is introducing Reformer Pilates as a core pillar of its 2026 fitness strategy in the Midlands. The simultaneous launch at Lings Forum and Moulton ensures that residents across the West Northamptonshire catchment area have access to the same level of equipment.

These studios are intended to form part of an extensive group exercise programme. The council’s strategy focuses on increasing local participation in physical activity, specifically targeting the health goal of 30 minutes of exercise five times per week.

Low-impact strength training for all abilities

Reformer Pilates differs from traditional mat-based exercises by using a specialist frame. The adjustable resistance allows users to tailor the intensity of the workout to their specific needs, making it a frequent choice for those in physical rehabilitation or those looking to improve core stability without the joint strain associated with heavy weightlifting.

The exercise is marketed as suitable for all age groups. The moving platform (the carriage) and the pulley system allow for a range of motion that can assist with flexibility and posture correction. For the West Northamptonshire community, this represents a move toward more specialized, equipment-led group fitness rather than general-purpose gym floors.

Everyone Active, the trading name for Sports Leisure Management (SLM), has operated leisure facilities since 1987. Their partnership with West Northamptonshire Council aims to deliver value-for-money health services while maintaining modern standards in local authority-owned buildings. The June launch will see these three centres become the primary hubs for Reformer Pilates in the immediate region.
